Shady retreats…

I’m often asked to design for areas that don’t get full sun. Turning an unloved empty space into a shady retreat is very satisfying, and it’s amazing how a dank corner can be transformed with a positive attitude and the right plants….

My own garden in the woods:

My garden, which is surrounded by woodland, is mainly filled with foliage plants; Hostas, Acers, Bamboo, Astilbe…..with shrubs like Fatsia japonica, Hydrangea and Viburnums providing the backbone. I’ve snuck a few conifers in too…

An Uplyme Holiday let:

I designed and built these raised beds in empty corner of a holiday let garden  – now a seating place in dappled light for the visitors. No ‘before’ pic sadly but you’ll have to take my work for it, there really was nothing there!

Lyme Regis residence with a north aspect:

Susana and Tim’s garden….planted with grasses and everygreens for a modern, gravel-style look. But also chosen for their ability to cope with the shade from the house in the winter.
